Deni Ute Muster announces 2017 line up

It feels like we have been waiting a long time for this announcement. But the day has finally arrived. Organisers of the 2017 Deni Ute Muster have announced the artists to be playing over the weekend:

However this is one festival where it’s a lot more than music with entertainment options high! Organisers say they will also be announcing the day stage artists and entertainment schedule soon. A top bucket list event in Australia with around 18,000 patrons flocking to Deniliquin in southern New South Wales each long weekend. The Festival will be held September the 29th-30th.

Tickets are now on sale!

For 19 years the iconic Deni Ute Muster has been the Labour Day long weekend destination of choice for ute and music enthusiasts and 2017 is set to deliver its biggest main stage line up ever for a mega weekend of fun, music, mateship and, of course, utes. Thanks to the AFL Grand Final Friday holiday, our Victorian friends get to join the fun with their own long weekend too.

What do you think of this line up????

Personally, I am a little disappointed with the line up. After pulling Keith Urban last year, the expectations to bring out one USA headliner was high!

Leave me a comment below, I would love to hear your thoughts!

Ambassador Named:

At the Gympie Show last week, The Muster announced Travis Collins as the 2017 Gympie Music Muster Ambassador! It has been a big hear already for Travis who won 3 of the top Golden Guitar awards at Tamworth Music Festival in January and then another 3 at the CMC Awards prior to the CMC Rocks Festival.

“I’ve seen all sides of the Muster, from many years camping with family, to performing on main stage, having a rum with mates in the legendary Crow Bar, or grabbing a new pair of boots at one of the many onsite shops,”  he said.  “I still don’t know what element I love most about the Muster… It’s just that kind of magic place and iconic event that offers an experience like no other. From the full electric buzz of mind-blowing Aussie entertainment each day and night, to the silent calm and eerie stillness of morning and native bird calls waking the campers, and setting up camp beside strangers on day one but leaving as lifelong mates come day five… catching up with them the following year… and the year after that.”

With many Australian country music fans upset the Gympie Muster hasn’t succumbed to the demand for large international acts. There are still a respectable number of loyal festival-goers who rock up every year, weeks in advance to set up camp. Most probably next to the same crowd as the year before. Excited to meet new people and celebrate another year of Aussie Country and all that entails.

I remember heading to this festival 25 years ago and recently just started taking my kids! While the drop to the low 10s at night is not the most appealing aspect of the festival. The music, people and atmosphere more then makes up for it!

So in order to catch me at the festival, head over and grab yourself some tickets

Big Red Bash 2017

Australia’s The world’s most remote music festival is back this year with an amazing line up! While unfortunately original headliner Jessica Mauboy has had to pull out, organisers have replaced her with nine time ARIA Winner and music legend Missy Higgins.

Top 10 Dixie Chicks Songs

Follow my blog with Bloglovin

The Dixie Chicks are heading to Australia !!!!!!! I am so excited about this, I was honestly at the point of my life where I had ruled them out! Then BAM, they are heading ‘down under’ to headline the 10th annual CMC Rocks Festival plus additional side shows!!! Woooooooo! Some of my favourite Dixie Chicks song include; ‘Travelin’ Solider’, ‘Cowboy Take Me Away’ and ‘Not Ready to Make Nice’.

But it got me thinking, which song, is the most popular??? So I turned to YouTube, went through and found the most viewed videos Dixie Chicks video clips.

10. Travelin’ Solider

Ranked no. 15 on Rolling Stones 40’s saddest songs ever. This song was written by Austin based ruce Robison was inspired to write “Travelin’ Soldier” after a friend was activated for duty in the first Iraq war.

[source: Wikipedia]

9. There’s Your Trouble

This single became the first no.1 hit for the girls on the Billboard Country Singles chart in 1998. Then in In 1999, the Dixie Chicks were awarded a Grammy Award for ‘Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal’ for their performance of “There’s Your Trouble”.

[source: Wikipedia]

8. Ready to Run

This single was cowritten by fiddle playing Martie Seidel (now Martie Maguire) and Marus Hummon. It appeared in the film; Runaway Bride with Richard Gear and Julia Roberts.

[source: Wikipedia]

7. Cowboy Take Me Away

Released in 1999, this song was cowritten with Martie Maguire and Marcus Hummon. The song’s title is derived from a famous slogan used in commercials for Calgon bath and beauty products. “Clogan, Take Me Away”

[source: Wikipedia]

6. Without You

Written by lead singer Natalie Maines and country songwriter Eric Silver, “Without You” is on the of the more conventional songs the group released. Lacking some of the ‘attitude’ they were known for at the time.

[source: Wikipedia]

5. Wide Open Spaces

Wide Open Spaces was a song written by Susan Gibson, which was nearly a one hit wonder for the singer-songwriter. The album of the same name was a huge success in Australia which spent 6 years in the Country Top 20 on the ARIA charts.

[source: Wikipedia]

4. You Were Mine

The song was written in 1995 by two of the founders of the original Dixie Chicks band, the Erwin sisters, who were not strangers to writing music and performing (they are now known as Martie Maguire and Emily Robison). Robison wrote most of the song, and Maguire supplied the bridge. It is a very autobiographical song, about the breakup of Robison’s and Maguire’s parents and their subsequent divorce.

[source: Wikipedia]

3. Land Slide

Written by Stevie Nicks and performed originally by British-American group Fleetwood Mac, Natalie was drawn to this song as she was the same age as Stevie when she wrote it. Stevie wrote this song while overlooking the Rocky Mountains in Aspen, Colorado while deciding if she should go back to school or continue with guitar.

[source: Wikipedia]

2. Goodbye Earl

The song plot has been described as a cross between the films Fried Green Tomatoes and Thelma and Louise. It was originally written by Dennis Linde and recorded by the band Sons of the Desert. Dennis actually wrote a few songs that included this ‘Earl’ character.

[source: Wikipedia]

1. Not Ready to Make Nice

It remains the band’s biggest hit in the US to date. The song was written by Natalie Maines, Martie Maguire, Emily Robison, and Dan Wilson. It was released in June 2006 and in February 2007 it won the group 3 Grammy awards.

Controversy erupted over the Dixie Chicks in 2003 following a critical comment vocalist Natalie Maines made on the American President George W. Bush while performing in a concert in London, United Kingdom. In relation to the forthcoming invasion of Iraq, Maines said, “…we don’t want this war, this violence, and we’re ashamed that the President of the United States is from Texas.

[source: Wikipedia]

Their music was taken off radio soon after the comment. In March, 2010, however, the Dixie Chicks announced a few tours and are now currently on a world tour. They are due in Australia March/April 2017, ten years since their last tour down under.
